Congressperson Cynthia McKinney
April 8, 2006

PPE: Ms. McKinney, thank you for your time to meet with us.

CM: I’d appreciate it if you addressed me as Congressperson McKinney.

PPE: Certainly, you’ve earned that. Congressperson McKinney, you did an about face recently when you said you regretted the confrontation with the Capitol Hill police officer.

CM: Yes. It was an unfortunate incident.

PPE: Some say you carefully phrased your words and never actually apologized for punching the officer. You simply apologized for the escalation of events.

CM: I said “I apologize.” End of story.

PPE: Okay. Can you understand how many felt your cries of racism were uncalled for?

CM: Yes. I can understand this because White America doesn’t understand what Americans of Color must endure every day.

PPE: Congressman DeLay said you are simply a racist.

CM: Ridiculous. African-Americans are incapable of racism because we hold no power.

PPE: You punched a police officer.

CM: He stopped me on my way to important official government business.

PPE: What should the police officer have done since he didn’t recognize you?

CM: He should have let me pass.

PPE: What if you had been a terrorist or some other type of criminal?

CM: Are you serious?

PPE: Why, yes. If the Capitol Hill police don’t recognize you, it’s their duty to stop you and have you present your credentials.

CM: (laughing) Look at my face.

PPE: Okay.

CM: What do I have in common with a terrorist?

PPE: Well, nothing, but that’s because I know you.

CM: Wrong! I have nothing in common with a terrorist because as an African-American, I am incapable of terrorism.

PPE: How’s that?

CM: White people mass murder, Black people just pop each other.

PPE: Excuse me?

CM: McVey, bin Laden, Dahmer, Krueger. Those are all White dudes.

PPE: Krueger?

CM: You know, Freddy Kreuger – that scary nightmare guy.

PPE: He’s not real.

CM: But he’s White. The point is, you’d never see a brother doing that, jumping around people’s dreams – slashing them with razor tipped gloves. No, that’s all you White guys.

PPE: Okay. What about Moussaoui?

CM: He didn’t kill anybody.

PPE: But he would have if he weren’t arrested.

CM: Says you.

PPE: Okay Ms., uh, I mean, Congressperson McKinney. How should the Capitol Hill police change their practices to ensure no racial profiling takes place?

CM: First, you create an express lane for all people of color.

PPE: An express lane?

CM: Yes. This would allow us to better screen all the terrorist White folk.

PPE: Isn’t that the very definition of racial profiling?

CM: Nope.

PPE: Why not?

CM: African-Americans are incapable of profiling Whites because they are in the majority.

PPE: Okay, our time is about done. Thank you for your time Congressperson McKinney.

CM: What? You’re not done. I need as much time as you gave that Ken Lay White guy.

PPE: There’s nothing more to say.

CM: You’re cutting me off because I’m Black!

PPE: No, I’m cutting you off because as a rational-American, I’m incapable of continuing this conversation.
